Band Syllabus

 

Grades (per 9-week grading period)

· 90 points (10 per week) or the instrument going home each Friday.

· 90 points (10 per week) for turning in a completed Practice Record each Monday. 25 minutes is required daily.

· 90 points (2 per day) for Class Participation– having instrument, music, and all needed accessories each day, being ready or class.

· 380 points for Playing Tests– will have two or three playing tests for chair positions each grading period. (Chair challenges do not count as a grade but can be administered between tests.)

· 358 points for each Public Performance (if one is scheduled during that grading period) Attendance to all performances is a required part of band.

· Total points available per grading period is 1,000.

 

Rules:

· Remain silent when the director is on the podium and use quiet voices at all times.

· No gum, candy, food, or drinks are permitted in the band room.

· You are not to leave the band room for any reason without permission.

· Keep your hands feet, objects, and unkind words to yourself, this includes instruments, you are to take care of your instrument and your instrument only.

· No defacing of any school property.

· Instruments are to be dropped off after 7:50am and picked up before 2:40pm.

· All other BMS rules and policies

· BE RESPECTFUL

 

Consequences:

 This is per week not daily

· Name in the discipline book = warning

· Name + check = 5 points off participations grade

· Name + 2 checks = phone conference with guardian and write offs.

· Name + 3 checks = phone conference with guardian and after school detention on Wednesday

· Name + 4 checks + office referral and guardian/teacher conference.

 

Extra Credit:

 

There will be chances to receive extra credit throughout the year. These points will be added on to your participation grade. I think it is important to note,  I look for and reward good behavior.

 

Class Procedure:

 

· Enter the band room quietly.

· Gently & neatly lay your book bags against the wall.

· Go immediately to the storage room and pick up your instrument. Large instruments such as baritones, tubas, and trombones, please putyour instrument together and set your case back on the assigned shelf.

· Sit in your assigned seat and begin to quietly warm-up.

· Reverse this procedure to leave.

    *failure to follow this procedure will result in your name being put in the discipline book.

     Rules and procedures apply to off campus field  trips as well.

 

Materials Needed:

· One 1 inch three ring black binder

· 20-30 clear sheet protectors

· Several sharpened pencils

· Method Book

· Instrument with needed accessories
